A new Northumbria Police station in Newcastle’s city centre opens its doors to the public today – Friday, September 19.
The Newcastle City Centre Police Station is situated at the top of Forth Banks, a short distance from the Central Railway Station and Times Square.
The station, open 24 hours a day, will be a base for over 600 officers and police staff. It also houses a 21st century purpose built custody suite with 50 cells, the largest in the force, which will take detainees later in the year.
The new station has emerged from a building site over the last three years after work first began in September 2011 and has cost £36.26 million to complete.
It has now been officially opened by Northumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird and Chief Constable Sue Sim.
Vera Baird said:
“It is great that Forth Banks is now open to the public helping officers provide our policing service to the public in Newcastle.”
