Bjelin has continued to expand in the UK commercial flooring market over the past year, with its distinctive hardened wood flooring range. Now it has been featured on an elegant 250 square metre renovation project for design gallery Modernity in Belgravia, London, which highlights the functionality and outstanding aesthetic qualities of the Bjelin range.
Modernity specialises in the collection and sale of rare and high-grade furniture, ceramics, glass, lighting and jewellery by the most renowned Nordic designers of the 20th century. Modernity first established its London office in September 2019. After opening showrooms at 14 Cavendish Square and Notting Hill’s Westbourne Grove, Modernity became the ‘go to’ destination in London for sourcing collectible Nordic Design.
In January 2023, Modernity opened a new permanent London showroom located in Newson’s Yard – a newly developed design destination on the Pimlico Road in Belgravia.
Founder Andrew Duncanson says: “It is a natural choice for us, being in the middle of all the other dealers of contemporary design, vintage design and classic antiques, along with important interior designers. As with all locations, the spirit of the area is incredibly important”.
Furthermore, UK director Sebastien Holt stated that: “It was important for us to think about how the space interacts with our collection, and how our clients live with collectable design. We have kept the Victorian-era brickwork and structural steel beams exposed whilst introducing oak flooring that captures the aesthetic of the modern London home.”
With thanks to Wood and Beyond, the specialist London importers and suppliers of hardwood products, Bjelin were able to supply an area of 250m2 of hardened wood flooring. They were looking for flooring that could create a feel of luxury, whilst being durable enough to perform well in a high traffic destination.
The Bjelin hardened wood flooring on this project looks absolutely superb and is a credit to the location. The product used was XXL Oak Nature – Natural – Brushed Lacquer, which showcases the technology behind the manufacture of a Bjelin hardened wood floor. This involves the pressing of a thin wooden veneer layer together with a wood fibre core, coated with a powder under high heat and pressure.
Woodura® the patented surface technology from Bjelin’s sister company Välinge, enhances the unique character of solid wood, by combining different wood veneer qualities with a powder mix in different colours and finishes. Additionally, the 5G® Dry™ technology gives the floor enhanced water resistance by preventing water from penetrating into the joints of the floor panels.
The Woodura® technology also maximises the floor surface available from every log. By using sliced wood instead of solid wood, ten times more flooring can be produced from the same amount of timber, whilst the 5G® Dry™ technology makes floors both easy to install and easy to live with.
The unique and beautiful design of Bjelin hardened wood flooring is ideal for this project, enhancing the appeal of Modernity’s new permanent London showroom.
