The 124 Bed Home for Vida Healthcare, built by GMI Construction in Pannal near Harrogate, North Yorkshire was officially opened in December 2016 by Professor Martin Green, The Chief Executive of Care England who commented that the building was ‘outstanding’.
The Home has been designed specifically to cater for the needs of dementia with the aim of delivering state of the art facilities for the care for people living with the condition. Vida Grange, designed by Den Architecture, consists of 8 self-contained ‘Houses’, each catering for residents with different types of dementia with the aim to improve residents well being.
A design led approach was at the forefront of the brief to create a building which would be an exemplar in the field of dementia care. Communal open plan spaces are at the core of the scheme. Naturally lit double height internal light wells comprising artificial green walls and artificial grass floors create the feel of an outside environment within. The spaces create a heart to each House and an environment which is welcoming and inclusive.
Horizontal circulation within each House provides continuous looped circulation which is considered highly beneficial for residents within a dementia care environment.
The Home is now occupied, receiving positive comments from the staff and residents. Professor Martin Green, Chief Executive of Care England further stated:
“The buildings are amazing and they have been really well designed.”
